-------------------------------- INTRODUCTION ---------------------------------
Motocross Champion is a motorcycle racing game released by Konami for the
Famicom game system in 1989. It was never officially released in English but
was translated by Suicidal Translations and released on September 3rd, 2001.
This file serves as an instruction manual for the translated game. It is not a
translation of the original instruction manual but is an original work based on
my experiences playing the game.

---------------------------------- THE STORY ----------------------------------
All of your life, you've dreamed of being the Motocross Champion. Ever since
you were a child, you've been training hard for the moment when you could hoist
the championship cup above your head in victory. It all comes down to the final
8 races. Can you survive the challenge and emerge victorious or will you retire
to the junkyard of has-beens and never-wills?
---------------------------------- GAMEPLAY -----------------------------------
As this is a racing game, gameplay isn't exceptionally difficult. There are two
modes to choose from, Practice and Compete. In Practice Mode you can select any
of the 8 tracks and race opponent free for as long as you want. Press select to
return to the track selection screen. On the track selection screen, press down
to scroll through the list of tracks.
In Compete Mode you battle five other competitors for the title of Motcross
Champion. In order to qualify for the actual race, you must first place 1st or
2nd in an initial heat. Failure to do so will require you to race in a 2nd heat
which you must complete in order to receive a second chance at the 1st heat.
Once you've successfully completed the 1st heat, you enter the main race. You
must place 1st in the main race to advance to the next track. Placing lower
than 1st will return you to the first heat. When you successfully complete a
main race, you will be given a password that will allow you to return to the
next track at any time.
In the later stages of the game, losing a race will cause you to receive the
bad ending. You must complete the 8th race in first place to receive the
super surprise twist ending which was somewhat stolen from Metroid.
General play control is simple:
Left/Right: turn your bike left/right
Down: ride a wheelie
Up: bring your front wheel down
B: brakes
A: gas
Start: pause
When I first started playing this game, I thought it was entirely too fast but
I'm now used to it. It basically just takes a lot of practice to get used to
the controls but once you do, they work as well as can be expected from such an
old game. Frantically tapping A&B repeatedly when you crash doesn't seem to
speed up the recovery process but I know you'll do it anywayz.

---------------------------------- CONCLUSION ---------------------------------
So there you have it. Not a lot to this game but it's fun to play and the last
couple of tracks are unbelievably challenging. I'm not sure how many attempts
it took me to beat the 7th and 8th tracks so I could test the translation of
the endings. I did eventually beat it, though, so it is definitely possible.
